SING SING
1960-2024
For Sing Sing, collecting art was never simply about owning paintings. He believed that somewhere among them could emerge the next great Indonesian master, in the spirit of Affandi, Raden Saleh, or Hendra Gunawan.
What defined Sing Sing was not only his eye for art, but his faith in people. Over the years, he built close friendships with artists, collectors, and curators, with his home becoming a gathering place for shared appreciation for art. For him, every painting carried the story of its artist — their struggles, ambitions, and way of seeing the world.
Today, the collection reflects not only a lifelong passion for Indonesian contemporary art, but also the relationships and trust that shaped it over the passing years.
His philosophy was simple: support meaningful artists early, nurture genuine relationships, and allow time to reveal their significance.
Sing Sing believed that great collections are built not by following the market, but by believing in people before the world does. He collected instinctively, drawn to honesty, character, and potential rather than trends or recognition. For him, art was deeply human — every painting carried the story of its artist, their struggles, ambitions, and way of seeing the world.
Now you get to enjoy it, too.
Stories Behind Every Piece
Mimin le Ming Lie
Steward of the
Collection
Mimin's relationship with art has always been deeply personal. With a background in environmental architecture and design, she brings a natural understanding of composition, atmosphere, and the role art plays within a space. Her approach to collecting is thoughtful and intuitive, guided less by trends and more by emotional connection, character, and cultural significance.
Deeply connected within Indonesia's art community, Mimin shares a longstanding appreciation for artists and the creative process behind their work. Through Sing & Me, she hopes to open the collection to a wider audience - not only seasoned collectors, but also younger buyers, architects, designers, and anyone looking to live meaningfully with art.
For her, art should not feel distant or intimidating. It should be experienced personally, lived with over time, and appreciated for the stories and emotions it carries.
